Mayor Fahey, David Sokol Sign Memorandum of Understanding

(OMAHA, Neb. – February 28, 2008) Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey and David Sokol, chairman of the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority (MECA), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to “work collaboratively and in good faith” to deal with issues surrounding the location of a proposed new baseball stadium on Qwest Center parking lots C & E. According to the Memorandum, “the City of Omaha agrees that it will not litigate with MECA in an attempt to force MECA to relinquish Qwest Center Lots C & E for a new CWS Inc. stadium.”

The Memorandum further states that , “MECA will be the manager and operator of a new stadium on Qwest Center Lots C & E under contractual arrangements, in principle, the same as those under which MECA operates and manages the Qwest Center under a 99 year lease. All agree that there are unique aspects to the stadium project which will need to be accounted for in connection with the management arrangement. Among other things, these include revenue allocations necessary for financing of the project and provisions relating to the CWS event and related contractual provisions between College World Series of Omaha, Inc., the NCAA, Creighton University and the Omaha Royals.”

"MECA's involvement is something I've worked towards all along,” Mayor Fahey announced. “Working together, we will continue to move forward on this important project for the city of Omaha and our future with the NCAA College World Series."
